We had a small group on Monday, so I wasn’t there either, but I’m writing up a thorough synopsis of Handout 1 in distress tolerance. I plan to have it published by tomorrow night. In the meantime, here’s last semester’s entry.

Homework from the previous group was on page 178, where you were to try to use some distress tolerance skills and rate your level of distress before and after the practice. As usual, everyone did a great job attempting to use the skills. We had some very unique ideas for distress tolerance skills – in particular, ripping up a phonebook page by page, mindfully. I’ve not heard this idea before, so I was intrigued and several others thought it would be a good distract practice to try. (more…)

In today’s class, we talked about the Distress Tolerance skills. We went over a bunch of material, all of it on Handout 1 (pgs. 165-169). These skills are short-term strategies to keep you from making a situation more difficult or acting ineffectively.
