DBT is dialectical behavioral therapy. This form of treatment has been created for individuals who have issues with regulating emotion. It is designed to help people who are emotionally sensitive. Individuals who have strong feelings may benefit from learning the coping skills needed to regulate their emotions. DBT is based on the idea that problems in regulating emotions and self-management are learning deficits rather than illnesses. DBT can help you to learn to trust yourself and create a more meaningful life.
DBT-U is a specially designed coping skills group for undergraduate and graduate university students who are enrolled in school or on leave from school. The DBT-U program consists of participating in both the coping skills group as well as individual therapy.
The foremost goal for each group participant is to become more aware of themselves as an agent for change and self-acceptance. The strength of DBT is learning to validate your experiences while also learning skills that improve your quality of life, reduce stress, regulate emotions, and maintain effective relationships.
